Two NJMC stormwater management projects to overhaul tide gates in the Meadowlands have received an additional $550,000 financial boost from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. The Port Authority funds will cover the entire cost of the East Riser project and partially cover the cost of the West Riser project.
The $100,000 East Riser Tide Gates project in Carlstadt should be finished by the end of the spring. The $1.4 million West Riser Tide Gates project in Moonachie should be complete by fall. These projects should mitigate flooding at Teterboro Airport and the industrial areas in Moonachie and Carlstadt that occurs from the storm surge during major storm events. Additional funds have been requested from the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
