Guided Hike Up "Snake Hill"
The Meadowlands Environment
Center will host a guided geology hike up the former “Snake Hill” in Secaucus.
Laurel Hill, as the site is now known, was created by volcanoes more than 200
million years ago. You’ll learn about the geology and mineralogy of this
fascinating formation, known as “Slangenberg” to the early Dutch settlers.
Hikers will gather at the MEC in Lyndhurst’s
DeKorte Park at 11 am to carpool to Laurel Hill
County Park in Secaucus, and will return to Lyndhurst around 2 pm. The
hike is about two miles round trip, and participants should be prepared for
moderately steep terrain and any weather. Ages 14 and over. Pre-registration is
required, and space is limited to 20 hikers.
Call the MEC’s
Jenny Mejia at 201-460-8300 to reserve your
spot.
